You make a great point. I suppose we could alter the definition of ‘mature’ so it’s not age dependant. I think of it more as ‘maturity,’ or increased self-confidence, that leads an individual to undertake self-directed learning #aboerjc

However, as I reflect on this I’m starting to realize that I personally identify as ‘self directed’ and probably always have. Would explain why I resisted structure outside of assignment instructions and was more likely to engage in a loosely run seminar #aboerjc

From an educator perspective, I’d say that my #Library #InformationLiteracy instruction falls largely under andragogy or heutagogy – with more of a move toward the latter in DE. Often, providing resources so learners can ‘explore’ is all that’s necessary #aboerjc

It does if we define engagement as the activities created and facilitated by the instructor. I suppose a counter argument could be to argue that at the highest stage, autonomous learners (mature learners) engage themselves. Perhaps I misunderstand the author’s argument #aboerjc

I think so, at least in lower level courses. There’s certainly a relationship – in my experience – between learner maturity and how much effort is required to engage the class #aboerjc

Student led sessions can lead to engaging classes, but it’s hard to create consistency in the experience. Student directed classes seem to work best with upper level courses where students are more used to seminar style lessons #aboerjc

I think this pyramid is pretty representative. I do find that as engagement goes up (or as I try to increase engagement), my control of the class increases. #aboerjc
