Thank you @Cambrian_Jess for being our guide to Wiley & HIlton’s (2018) #OER-EP articles on renewable assignments. aboerjournalclub.home.blog

#ABOERJC I feel like that’s an effort to try to challenge perceptions of OER as poor quality. ‘Looking’ like a traditional textbook may make people more comfortable because it will align with expectations about what teaching materials ‘should’ look like

#aboerjc In Canada there seems to be more #OER and #OEP uptake in K-12 – very lively discussions. @verenanz has great examples. There are pockets of innovation at unis and colleges.Jess O’Reilly @Cambrian_JessReplying to @DocBlom @AthabascaU

I can certainly relate to that feeling. Do you think we in Canada lag behind other countries or pockets of innovation when it comes to #OER and #OEP uptake? If we’re the laggards, who are the leaders?

Dr. Constance Blomgren @DocBlomSep 8Replying to @Cambrian_Jess @KlamnJam

Yes I think that it is part of the picture at the higher ed institutes. For profs & sessional instructors a textbook seems straightforward for all involved @egchristiansen @margymaclibrary #aboerjc

#ABOERJC Lastly, from a purely selfish standpoint, I am even more appreciative of OER now because I can still access research without a student library subscription

#ABOERJC Good point! I am also curious how the pandemic has affected textbook sales and if we will see more student-led advocacy within the classroom. This was always challenging b/c of the power imbalance but maybe now pressure will increase?

Dr. Constance Blomgren @DocBlomSep 8Replying to @Cambrian_Jess @AthabascaU

There are pockets of leaders everywhere but as @mweller notes Big #OER needs to meet up with little oer. #aboerjc

#aboerjc Challenges around keeping students engaged. This is a shift from F2F or blended to online.Jess O’Reilly @Cambrian_Jess

Q2. The pandemic has presented myriad challenges to teaching and learning, underscoring the urgent need for universal access to resources such as OER. In what ways have you observed (or not) practitioners engaging with #OER and #open practices in this unprecedented time? #ABOERJC

Rosemarri Klamn, MAPC, CPHR she/her/hers @KlamnJamSep 8Replying to @Cambrian_Jess

#aboerjc A2: I have noticed tweets from K-12 teachers posting examples and queries on examples for their classrooms. Sharing information.

Cordelia Snowdon @CordeliaSnowdonSep 8Replying to @Cambrian_Jess

#ABOERJC A2 I was wrapping up my final semester in March, so I have not experienced my own profs shifting to include more OER, but I am excited by the increasing narrative around the need to provide accommodations and remove barriers that opens up discussions of OER
