The Jan 5 conversation continued, which is common. Thank you @BrandonCarsonEd and participants….

Oh yes! Open Ed Alberta Pressbooks Platform LITERALLY gave the students the opportunity to amplify, share and build knowledge with others! (And 2learn what #OER is all about by “experiencing” the potential) …. #EdTechEthics #aboerjc

Dr. Erika Smith @erikasmith
Excited to see “Ethical Use of Technology in Digital Learning Environments: Graduate Student Perspectives” out by @verenanz @dmichelej @ACHurrell et al. And this open book uses our Open Education Alberta Pressbooks platform, too! 🙌 openeducationalberta.ca/educationaltec…

aboerjc. Thank you @BrandonCarsonEd and participants for sharing. I am curious about McGowan’s gleaning so much information from HE websites, re grants or funding. These are not usually posted on Cdn websites – is that so? Other jurisdictions?

Brandon Carson @BrandonCarsonEd
Well folks, that is all of the questions for tonight; however, I encourage you to keep the conversation going. This was a lot of fun, and I thank @KlamnJam and @DocBlom for the opportunity. Also, a big thank you to everyone participating. #aboerjc #OER #OEP #OpenEducation

I really can’t promote the library enough. They are the quiet leaders who plant the seeds of change for OER.

Thank you @BrandonCarsonEd (and all) for hosting and organising this great #aboerjc. Loved reading about how #OER policy is changing/shifting in each of our institutions. #OpenEducation

(A bit late to the party, but here goes)
A1: No official support per se, but Lib, T&L, and ICT all indirectly play a huge role in “supporting” OER institutionally. Then again, it is mostly just pockets of “doers” that are finding ways to support their own OER #aboerjc

Agree. Funding does not have to be specific to #OER but it would be nice to see it as a categoryfor scholarly teaching grants. #ABOERJC

aboerjc Q3. To my knowledge research funding w/ FT faculty as PI and adjunct faculty collaborating; travel funds for grads to promote their research. Nothing specific to #OER.

Q3: What types of funding does your institution offer to develop OER?

A3: a grant program. It takes a bit of work to promote it but once you have a few champions promoting it it can take off. #aboerjc

There are quite a few great advocates at #MRU right now trying to garner institutional support; then COVID happened. The work continues, but perhaps I won’t benefit directly. That’s the way it goes sometimes! #aboerjc

A2: yes! There was a push at our institute to use some common core OER for trades. This came from faculty though. This goes back to @dendroglyph mentioning getting a dean and t and l centres on board as well. #aboerjc

Q3: What types of funding does your institution offer to develop OER?

aboerjc Somewhat. #OER adoption is complex and seems to take time . Many of McGown’s points about adoption apply (awareness, time, money, tech support) #OEP principles are a natural means of being able to pivot quickly @egchristiansen @DocBlom

Brandon Carson @BrandonCarsonEd
Q2: Have you seen increased support for the use of OER at your institution with the shift to online and remote learning?

We’ve gained a lot of support and interest, but we also noticed a few gaps in content authoring tools and supports to facilitate the development of #OERs.

At AU there are pockets of open educators but formal support for #OER and #oep is not as focused as places such as Kwantlen. #aboerjc is a means to provide some support for Alberta #OER.

aboerjc. A1: Learning design provides support in course development if faculty decide they want to use OER. I do not think #OER or #OEP is widely encouraged yet. I am not sure about funding opportunities. @DocBlom
